Save on Energy: Peak Performance Program

IESO (Independent Electricity System Operator), Ontario · Save on Energy

OntarioElectricityIntake openNo stated deadline

What it pays

2026 rates: a performance incentive of $54,845.40/MW-season, plus a one-time enabling incentive of $20/kW ($20,000/MW) for equipment or services required to participate

Deadline: none stated on the source page

A demand-response program that pays buildings to shed HVAC load on peak electricity demand days between June 1 and September 30. Participation requires access to interval data through the local utility's meters and sub-metering systems.

Who qualifies

Non-residential commercial, institutional or municipal buildings in Ontario that are Class B customers (not participating in the Industrial Conservation Initiative) and hold no capacity obligation under the IESO Capacity Auction, aggregating at least 500 kW of demand response capacity alone or through an authorised aggregator.

Summarized from the official page. This is not advice; the provider decides.

Status note, as recorded

Verified open 2026-08-25. Worth a warning: the eligible building list is commercial, institutional and municipal (warehouses qualify, a production line does not) and it explicitly excludes ICI (Class A) participants, so it and the Industrial Conservation Initiative entry are mutually exclusive: a factory picks one. Applications run January 1 to May 30 each year; the page notes "You can apply after May 30, however, performance incentives will be prorated based on the start date", which is why no hard deadline is recorded. Participants re-apply and update their contributor portfolio annually. The 2026 rates above are replaced when the 2027 season rates publish.

Nearly every application on this list wants a measured figure that most plants do not have yet. Metering produces it, and we can help your team put the paperwork together around it.
