Wastewater Rebate
Halifax Water (Halifax Regional Water Commission)
What it pays
varies (no fixed amount published); the difference between the volume of water purchased and the volume of wastewater discharged becomes the basis for the wastewater rebate value
Deadline: Rolling intake
An annual rebate for industrial and commercial customers whose water never reaches the sewer, evaporated in cooling towers, or incorporated into product. The claim is built from twelve consecutive months of measured water-in and wastewater-out data.
Who qualifies
Customers purchasing more than 1,000 m3 of water annually from Halifax Water who can demonstrate, to Halifax Water's satisfaction, that the volume discharged to the wastewater system is less than the volume received.
Summarized from the official page. This is not advice; the provider decides.
Status note, as recorded
This rebate is arithmetically impossible to claim without submetering. "The customer collects 12 consecutive months of data and submits it to Halifax Water for review and payment", and "An application for a wastewater rebate must be submitted to Halifax Water within six months after the end of the 12-month data period." The instrumentation therefore has to be in place a full year before the first cheque, which is the whole argument for installing it now. "Requests for rebate must be made annually." Natural fits: breweries, food and beverage plants, anything with a cooling tower. Status "rolling" is inferred from the recurring annual mechanism and a live submission form; the page carries no explicit intake statement. Pre-approval involves a site assessment of private water and wastewater systems, usually including a site visit. Submit via the online form plus supporting data to customercare@halifaxwater.ca. Halifax Water also runs a separate ICI stormwater credit, not verified here.

Nearly every application on this list wants a measured figure that most plants do not have yet. Metering produces it, and we can help your team put the paperwork together around it.
